How do I get rid of cat pee smell from a fireplace?

My cat has started using the fireplace as a litterbox. I tired to clean it out thoroughly this evening and build a fire. Now my whole house stinks like cat pee. How do I get rid of this smell and will it linger in my home? He has a litterbox and knows who to use it. I'm just don't want my home to stink like cat pee forever. Help this is awful, I had to change the clothes I used while building the fire because the stunk so bad. I am afraid it will get into my furniture and curtains. Anyone have any tips oe tricks on eliminating this smell.
