My straightener gives off a funny smell?

i think the plates are way tooo hot and its a burning smell . i used to have the same problem with mine so i stopped using it and started to profesonly get my hair done and she told me my hair has so much heat damage its not even funny i had to get a mean hair cut and it sucks (3 years ago). if ur STRAIGHTENER has a tempter change Button on it go for it change it. if after changing it and it dose the same go out and get a new one . cause nine times out of ten its messing up ur hair
