Gel fueled fireplace users...got a question?

I have a gel fueled fireplace.. I noticed the heat is only felt when you're right up against it, and can only be felt in the upper portion of it. My question is, can a ceiling fan, cycling counterclockwise, be used to direct the heat downwards, so it will heat the room more? (I believe it's counterclockwise?)
